ED IVEY

RICHARD GREEN/THE CALIFORNIAN

Sousaphone player Ed Ivey of San Francisco entertains Deborah Villalobos, center, and Frances Arvizu, both of Hayward, at the opening of the 46th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival on Friday night at the Monterey Fairgrounds. Ivey plays for the Brass Monkey Brass Band of San Francisco, and he was entertaining guests at the entrance to the festival grounds.

Below, a pic from January 2007 at Biscuits & Blues in San Francisco -- I have the honor of playing a few blues tunes with David "Honeyboy" Williams.
Honeyboy is the last living link to Robert Johnson; as a young rambling musician, he became close to Johnson and watched him die a painful, shaking death over a few days after being
poisoned by a jealous man. Honeyboy lives in Chicago and is still touring, recording, and telling vivid stories about life in Memphis during the wild Thirties.
